Stimulating Children's Ability to Learn
Combining playing, reading and learning.
The concept behind A British Child’s historical doll series originated when a young mother realised that her daughter’s history education was skipping over periods and facts which she had found absorbing when she, herself, was a child. She began researching key British historical periods to pass on information to her daughter in the form of stories.
From that experience sprang the idea of combining accurately costumed dolls with well written and historically correct stories involving children from the past. The stories are linked to dolls because, from observation and research, a child’s imagination is more easy stimulated if information is related to action. Combining playing with reading (whether by the child, or out-loud, by the parent) not only implants facts, but also creates a desire to learn more.
But Jane had enjoyed every minute of it. All of the bustle and commotion and excitement had left her giddy with nerves.
